Mission Statement

The Toronto International Film and Video Awards Inc. (TIFVA) is a non-profit corporation dedicated to awarding and showcasing the best independent films from around the world.

Who is TIFVA?

Toronto International Film and Video Awards Inc. (TIFVA) only awards the best in independent film.

For your chance to be recognized as the best of the best in independent film- from any genre and from any country around the world- submit to TIFVA.

In 2013 submissions are accepted in 14 categories and with over $15,000 in prizes, TIFVA is the right awards ceremony/film festival for you to get recognition your project deserves.

What TIFVA Does

All of our submissions are viewed by three industry professionals before moving forward in the competition. We believe that our process our submissions the best possible chance- leaving individual preference out of the equation.

We screen our winning films to passionate film audiences in Toronto, hungry for the best in independent film.

TIFVA provides all submissions a chance to be seen by the ‘right’ people, our esteemed judges who are all acclaimed in their fields.

Categories

Narrative Feature

  • a) No Budget (budget $25,000 and under)
  • b) Micro Budget (budget $26,000-$50,000)
  • c) Low Budget (budget $51,000-$100,000)
  • d) Mid budget (budget $101,000 +)

Features can be in any genre, produced in any year, can have distribution, and are 50 minutes to 180 minutes long.

Narrative Short

Shorts can be in any genre, produced in any year, can have distribution, and are a maximum of 50 minutes

Student Film

Student films can be in any genre, produced in any year, must be produced by student, and are a maximum of 180 minutes long.

Feature Documentary

Feature documentaries can have been produced in any year, can have distribution, and are 50 minutes to 180 minutes long.

Short Documentary

Short Documentaries can have been produced in any year, can have distribution, and are a maximum of 50 minutes.

Experimental

Experimental films can have been produced in any year, can have distribution, and can be of any length to a maximum of 150 minutes.

Animation

Experimental films can have been produced in any year, can have distribution, and can be of any length to a maximum of 150 minutes.

Children’s Film

Experimental films can have been produced in any year, can have distribution, and can be of any length to a maximum of 150 minutes.

Music Video

Music videos can have been produced in any year, can have distribution, and are a maximum of 10 minutes.

Web Series

Web Series can have been produced in any year, can have distribution, and can be of any length to a maximum of 150 minutes.

Screenplay

Screenplays can be of any length up to a maximum of 150 pages.

Awards 2013

'Best 2013 TIFVA Film' winner receives a $10,000 post production package generously provided by GHS Studios (please insert link to their site- on the 'Partners' page).

'Best Director' winner receives a $5,000 post production package generously provided by GHS Studios (please insert link to their site- on the 'Partners' page).

All 'Best of' category winners receive a TIFVA certificate.
