Mission Statement
The mission of the Toronto International Film and Video Awards (TIFVA) is to support and promote independent artists in the film industry.
The Toronto International Film and Video Awards (TIFVA) is a Toronto-based not-for-profit awards ceremony/film festival whose founders are committed to the support and promotion of independent artists in the film industry. TIFVA was started by local filmmakers who identified a gap that exists between independent filmmakers and their community, and the challenges of gaining recognition for their work. Through a unique set of offerings TIFVA bridges this gap and in the process creates an environment of support and growth.

TIFVA, as an organization, is dedicated to supporting independent filmmakers by having their work evaluated by industry professionals and viewed by audiences. Our members share a passion for film and video and have designed a showcase site which serves to create a platform for emerging talent.
WE GIVE FEEDBACK!
What makes TIFVA different from other festivals is that we strive to help artists develop their talent and as a result, we provide constructive feedback for every entry submitted to the festival that doesn't win an award. Opinions from industry professionals are crucial to an artist's growth and TIFVA will provide input on all submissions. Click here for an example of the feedback provided for here submission that isn’t selected for a TIFVA award.
WE POST YOUR TRAILER!
For every submission that provides one, TIFVA will post the trailer to maximize exposure for the film or video. All trailers will be viewable on the website on the Trailers page, allowing filmmakers to preview other projects from around the world! New trailers will be added daily.
19 Awards Available for 2012!
TIFVA awards are divided between 10 categories, with up to 3 HONOURABLE MENTIONS per category and up to 10 RUNNER-UP awards in the Screenplay category. The Nominations in each category are not considered awards.
ALL GENRES OF FILMS ARE ACCEPTED.
How TIFVA Works
Every film and video submitted to the festival will be viewable on the "Trailers" page. It will be updated regularly, with the submissions divided into the categories they were submitted to. Any body of work not chosen for an award will receive constructive feedback from the judging panel providing detail as to why it was not selected. Honing your craft can be very subjective so we feel that feedback from your peers as well as those in the industry is essential to the development process.
Once the winning submissions have been selected, we will distribute the results to applicable media publications, both print and online. We firmly believe that promotion and exposure is one of the key tools that every filmmaker and writer needs to be successful and our mandate is to get the word out about YOUR work.
Please check out the Awards page to see a list of categories and awards.
Each submission will reviewed by at least THREE (3) industry professionals who will also be responsible for choosing the winning projects. And TIFVA WILL NOT miss our deadline to notify submitters as to the status of their project. We know how frustrating it is to WAIT!
